She holds a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from McGill University and a Masters of Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She spent her younger years teaching flute to private students. She spent over a decade as a band director for the Boston Public Schools, honing the skills in over a thousand young musicians. She established expertise in assessing the needs of students, designing innovative pedagogies, and engaging adolescents in a variety of exciting, beautiful, and meaningful repertoire. In 2010, Laura co-founded the Brookline Symphony Orchestra with a group of friends and remained a flutist and board member until 2022, when she relocated to Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG) in Montreal, QC.
